When in winter Mount Pelion is covered with snow, you have the perfect opportunity for some activity in the snow. The ski center Agriolevkes in Chania (12 km) has a ski school, a mountain hut and first aid assistance. It is also possible to rent the equipment for skiing and even snowboarding.
The summer is for relaxation at one of the many beautiful beaches, and fun in the crystal clear water of the Aegean Sea and the Pagasitic Bay with swimming, fishing or watersports such as diving and windsurfing.
Several cultural activities are being organized in Portaria during the summer months, with the World Day of Dance in May, the National Children's Dance Festival in July and the National Dance Festival in August. In the last week of August the celebrations will reach a climax with the revival of a traditional Pelioritic wedding.
